Hair loss treatment in Chester
There are many different types of oral treatment available for many different types of hair loss and the underlying cause of the hair loss must be established prior to a patient beginning any line of treatment.
At Northwest Trichology Centre we also refer you for hair replacement surgery and give advice on thickening solutions.
Female hair loss treatments
Successful treatments for women will very much depend on the underlying causes of the hair loss but may include genetic female pattern baldness or pattern hair loss.
If a female has a hormone imbalance, the cause must be established by blood screening or similar before any treatment is recommended.
If hair loss is temporary, appropriate treatment will be discussed if it is necessary but it must be many patients are pleased to find that temporary hair loss cases will spontaneously resolve.
Male hair loss treatment
For males experiencing male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), oral Finasteride or Propecia have proved most effective.
This licenced drug is used as a 1 mg daily tablet to suppress the activity of the 5α reductase enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This is effective but requires monitoring of side effects. Topical minoxidil in varying strengths is also useful, either as a single topical (applied) treatment or in combination with oral Propecia. The new 5% foam for men is available, although a percentage of users find it difficult to apply and have had problems with the applicator mechanism breaking as can happen with an aerosol.
The treatment best suited to you as an individual is determined at consultation. Northwest Trichology has been treating males and females with these prescription drugs for many years and have proven efficacy levels.
After consultation, we are pleased to offer a comprehensive range of products available by post.
